Although you’ll find plenty of recipes for these delicious potato pancakes, I know them better as Bramboráčky. They are the simplest to make with only a few ingredients, almost certainly in most pantries or kitchens.
Growing up in a Czech family these remind of my childhood, my mother making them for us usually on the weekend and almost always for breakfast. However, they are great any time of day as a snack and I’ve seen some suggest these are a great main course. There are no rules.
These are also not unique to Czech’s and are known by various names; draniki, deruny, latkes, raggmunk, boxties or rosti. Each with a slight nuance depending on the region of origin. You don’t need to believe, just me check out the Potato Pancake Wikipedia page to see how common versions of this dish is.
For me this is comfort food to the extreme and my own family has grown to enjoy them regularly.
This recipe is the very simple version, you can add whatever you want, like traditional pancakes there is inherent versatility and only depends on your tastes and desires at the time. Common additional ingredients include fried onion, bacon bits or ham. They can also be topped with anything you like, onions, sour cream, cheese mustard and horseradish. Tomato ketchup if you must .. haha.
A thank you to my mum for this one.
