Hong Kong style steamed fish is just a wonderfully flavourful and surprisingly light dish. Although we've have this many times over the years we fell in love with it when we live in Hong Kong for a time. It would be the go to dish in one of the many live seafood market/eateries, the best were always on the Kowloon side and we only ever got to know where they were with one of our many local friends.

Traditionally this dish is prepared with a fresh whole fish, sea bass, grouper or something similar. It presents well and tastes absolutely fabulous. However you can have a wonderful meal quickly and simply for a family dinner with fresh or frozen white fish fillets available in most supermarkets.  We regularly use barramundi steaks which are a fairly meaty fish but any white fish fillet usually works.
